Young's girlfriend, Elodia Ortiz, said she heard what sounded like a glass bottle smash just as the home caught fire and believes someone threw a Molotov cocktail.
Minutes before recollecting the fire, two Detroit police homicide investigators in long black coats exited the couple's home. They'd been inside questioning Young and Ortiz about the slayings and their relationship with the victims.
Young said he only knew what he's heard on the news.
Ortiz, said Wednesday that Young was her best friend and the only person she trusts enough to babysit her children. On Thursday, she wore a red jacked that on the back read: "R.I.P. Netta-Boo (Harris's nickname) and Pancho (Davis' nickname), we miss u."

They told us "nothing that we didn't already know," said Detroit Police Investigator Charles Weaver after leaving the home. "We don't know anything, just digging, victimology.
Regarding the home being left open to intruders and curious neighbors, Weaver said police secure the crime scene upon departure "as best as possible."

Weaver and another female investigator stopped before getting into an unmarked blue police vehicle in the road. There attention was drawn to several women yelling in front of the home where the homicides occurred, including Russell and two other women identifying themselves as cousin's of the Bender, the 16-year old homicide victim.
"This is crazy," shouted Latrice Turner, one of the women.
The officers walked over and asked the women what they knew. Turner said she knew someone who had been in the home participating in a dice game prior to the killings. Turner later said she didn't know if the officer took her official statement, adding that no notes were written and the detective didn't ask her name.
