While there were still the body-con and body hugging dresses, Victoria Beckham's spring 2013 collection had amore forgiving silhouette with swingy skirts that swayed away from the hips. But you've got to have serious gams for these tennis skirts because the hemlines are way up there. Beckham's collection was, like most of the stellar collections this season so far, in black and white, broken in parts by vermillion. There were cutout tops worn with those short skirts. Helmut Newton figured prominently again as an inspiration especially in the pantsuit worn with a bra top. My favorite look however was the form fitting nude double spaghetti strap dress with sheer cutouts on the waist. Beckham also showed sandals that looked like boots. These might easily be the footwear for spring 2013.

Diane Von Furstenberg's collection was luxe gypsy wanderlust. Imagine Talitha Getty jetting around the world with today's generation of It Girls like Bianca Brandolini, Dasha Zhukova and Shala Monroque. It's a collection very much in keeping with her muse whom she described as having “the polish of a princess and the heart of gypsy.” The clothes echoed that jumping off point in that they straddled the worlds of glamorous party dressing and Moroccan sojourn resort wear. Think silk coats and crepe dresses and flowy chiffon gowns for the former and beaded tunics and jumpsuits for the latter. As with most DVF shows, the colors were knockouts.

Michael Bastian has a way of making men swoon and get excited over clothes as they do with cars or flat screen TVs. For spring he delivered clothes that are bound to fly off the racks like half-zip sweaters, knitted henleys, slim swim trunks, and the rugby shirts and tailored cargo pants that have become his signature. The most beautiful pieces however are the window pane jackets and the patch elbow double-breasted sport coat worn over cut-off shorts.

Tommy Hilfiger continued his theme of stripes and lightweight weather from his menswear show to his women's collection. He referred to his show as an American Voyage citing Lauren Hutton and Jackie O as muses. You could see the references in the slouchy cream and striped suits and in the cable-knit sweaters and cardigan dresses. There were Breton shirts which from afar looked like regular shirting material but up close they were actually made from leather. The flowing backless dresses in red and mustard that closed the show were wow moments.

Over 30,000 students must go to school by boat, with many having to wake up as early as 4am or 5am to travel 10km from their home to school. Long criticised the current method of transport as dangerous and bemoaned the fact that children must pay the boat fee, leaving them with less time to relax after school.

Regarding the issue of safety, the province requires boat owners to provide life jackets for students, and has placed restrictions on the amount of people carried per trip.

Though Director Long says it is normal to travel by boat in the area, the local Government hopes to reduce the number of children travelling this way by up to 25,000 by investing in a rural transportation system that includes bridges and roads by 2015.
